199 Events Call List to Fill Cancellations

Sign up to be called as substitute at a dinner or event for someone who cannot attend and cannot find a substitute. It can be disconcerting to donors to have an empty place at the table when they have planned so diligently to provide for a specific number of guests. The call list will be maintained by Mary Freundlich, and when an opening occurs, she will call or email folks, starting at the top of the list until someone (or a couple) is found who can attend. Once you are called and attend an event, your name will be dropped to the bottom of the list. Flexibility is the key here. You might be called a day or a month in advance. Take a chance. A $10 investment might get you a $50 dinner or event, or several dinners.

21 Flamingoes!

A whole flock of beautiful pink flamingoes will be stationed in the yard of your choice. To remove this colorful flock, the lucky recipient need only call the EUUC flamingo removal team. For an additional donation of $10, the birds will relocate to a yard of the recipient's choice. A larger donation may expedite the relocation process, of course. Remember to be stealthy, for flamingos are nonmigratory and often return to familiar roosts. Don't let them become too familiar with your yard. These birds are highly intelligent and know that the most suitable yards are those of members and friends of EUUC and will only locate in their yards. The EUUC Youth Group will provide a sign "You have been flamingoed by the EUUC Youth Group." For removal please call Amanda Schafer.

95 Partial Balayage @ Slate Salon

Have you been thinking about a new look for your hair once the pandemic ends and we go back to work in the office and start socializing more? Pronounced BAH-LEE-AHGE, balayage is actually a French word meaning ‘sweeping,’ as in to sweep on a hair lightener to create highlights. Balayage is the technique of free-hand painting highlights onto the hair, creating a soft and natural gradation of lightness towards the ends. The result is the look of summers spent at the beach, or the fresh, unintentionally perfect highlights on a child. This natural-looking highlighting technique is not just for blondes, but is actually used on all shades of hair to add soft, sunkissed dimension. Slate Salon in downtown Edmonds is the place to go for this fun look for spring and summer.

This one-of-a-kind stylized chalice has been made by Dan Ford specifically for the EUUC auction. It is made from Sapele, a hardwood from tropical Africa. (Sapele is NOT listed by CITES* as a species requiring protection from over-exploitation. The chalice stands 10-1/2” tall and the arc is 8” in diameter. Candles included. The color of Sapele does tend to naturally darken with age. *CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement between governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. Sapele is not deemed to be threatened or endangered, although like many similar species, recent decades has seen a decline in the range of area where it grows.

305 Hardwood Segmented Bowl

[Hardwood Segmented Bowl]

305 Hardwood Segmented Bowl

This is a segmented bowl made from three types of hardwoods, handcrafted by Dan Ford for the EUUC auction. The dark wood is Peruvian Walnut, the medium brown wood is African Mahogany and the light wood is American Birch. None of these woods are listed by CITES as a species requiring protection from over-exploitation—more about CITES below). The bowl is 8-1/4” across and 4-1/2” high. It is finished with a natural, food-safe oil. You can wash it, but don’t run it through the dishwasher. It is best to dry it off immediately after washing. Hardwoods can often be expected to naturally darken some with age. If you'd like to see a 9 minute video of Dan making a bowl similar to this one, check it out on YouTube: https://youtu.be/fCgXqKsJTGI CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement between governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
